Bahawalpur Divisional Tennis Championship Kicks Off Tomorrow;

BAHAWALPUR:The Bahawalpur Divisional (Inter-Clubs) Lawn Tennis Championship 2024 is set to commence on Wednesday, September 25, running through September 28, at Bahawal Gymkhana, Bahawalpur. This championship aims to promote tennis and highlight emerging talent from this vibrant, yet often overlooked, division.
In a statement regarding the tournament, Zohaib Raza, President of the Bahawalpur Division Tennis Association, emphasized that the event is being held under the vision and leadership of Captain (r) Fazeel Asghar, President of the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA). "Captain Fazeel Asghar is committed to advancing tennis throughout Punjab and has been instrumental in organizing such events. His vision is to ensure that tennis reaches all corners of the province, providing opportunities for young athletes to emerge and potentially represent Pakistan on an international platform," Raza noted.
Raza also underscored the significance of the championship, expressing his gratitude for the local administration’s support. He thanked Nadir Chattha, Commissioner of Bahawalpur, Zaheer Anwar Jappa, President of Bahawal Gymkhana and Deputy Commissioner of Bahawalpur, Secretary Dr. Awais A. Nizami, Sardar Aamir Baloch, Convener of the Sports Committee, and Divisional Sports Officer Aamir Hameed for their exceptional assistance in organizing the championship.
"Their combined efforts and dedication to the sport have enabled us to host such a prestigious event in Bahawalpur. The facilities provided at Bahawal Gymkhana ensure that participants can compete in an optimal environment," said Raza, a passionate tennis player himself. He also expressed appreciation for the support from the Sports Board Punjab in facilitating this event.
In addition to local authority support, Raza highlighted the important role of corporate sponsors, particularly Ch Saad Masood, owner of Asia Ghee Mills, and Ahsan Ali Haque, owner of Haqi Brothers. "We are deeply thankful to Mr. Saad Masood and Ahsan Ali Haque for their generous sponsorships, which have brought this championship to life. With such backing, we aim to continue organizing more tennis tournaments in Bahawalpur, encouraging youth participation in healthy sports activities. This not only nurtures future champions but also reinforces Bahawalpur’s status as a center for tennis development on both national and international levels," Raza concluded.
